The combat meta itself has not changed - Hyperion for AoE clear and survival, Terminator for ranged DPS, have been the go-to duo since Enderman Slayer VII shipped roughly four years ago. What did change is a balance patch. The 0.26 alpha reworked the Golden Dragon pet's signature perk, Gold's Power, turning it from a flat damage buff on every gold-colored weapon into a niche buff for Midas Sword and Midas Staff's Greed ability. For most players that is a straight nerf. The practical takeaway: check whether your setup relies on Gold's Power before you buy or sell around it, and don't expect a new weapon to unseat Hyperion or Terminator any time soon.
The Gold’s Power rework was confirmed on the 0.26 alpha/RC network on July 3, 2026, with 0.26.0 scheduled to go live July 8. Treat the numbers below as accurate for that patch and verify current live behavior and prices with the linked real-time tools before you trade or reforge around them.
Headline change: the Golden Dragon “Gold’s Power” rework
Golden Dragon’s Gold’s Power perk previously granted +100 Strength to any golden-colored weapon in your inventory or hotbar, which made it a near-universal damage pet regardless of what sword or bow you were using. The 0.26 alpha replaces that with a narrower effect: instead of buffing every gold-colored weapon, Gold’s Power now buffs the Greed ability on Midas Sword and Midas Staff by 10%. Ragnarock received +30 base Strength as direct compensation for losing the old blanket bonus.
The developer reasoning, per patch discussion, was that the old perk was unhealthy design: items were constantly being added to or forgotten from the informal “counts as golden” list, creating confusing edge cases instead of a clean, predictable bonus.
Nitroze ran an A/B comparison between live and alpha on July 5 and found non-Midas golden weapons lose roughly 7-8% damage, budget Midas Swords lose around 6%, while a maxed Chimera 5 Midas Sword comes out essentially unchanged because the new Greed buff offsets the lost Strength almost exactly at that gear tier. In practice this is a nerf for everyone except top-end Midas Sword users, and it hits niche gold-colored weapons hardest — the Autumn Split Katana in particular loses the most relative damage.
Golden Dragon is still the single best damage pet in the game overall even after the rework. At level 200 base stats it provides 50 Strength, 50 Attack Speed, and 10 Magic Find, plus the Shining Scales ability which scales with the coins in your purse and bank. The rework narrows who benefits from the pet’s signature perk; it does not remove the pet from the meta.
Estimated damage change after the Gold’s Power rework, by weapon tier:
| Weapon tier | Damage change |
|---|---|
| Non-Midas gold weapon | -7.5% |
| Budget Midas Sword | -6% |
| Maxed Chimera 5 Midas | ~0% |
| Ragnarock (compensated) | offset by base Strength buff |
Why the “big two” have not changed in four years
Hyperion (AoE clear plus survival via Wither Impact and the Implosion shield) and Terminator (ranged DPS) remain the default endgame duo. Both are reachable early relative to how long they stay best-in-slot: Hyperion unlocks at Catacombs level 24 plus a single Floor 7 clear, which is realistically around 10 hours of focused dungeon time for an organized group. Terminator needs 4 Braided Griffin Feathers and a Judgement Core, gated behind Enderman Slayer VII, which is boostable with the right party and Kuudra-tier gear.
Fear5s argues this is a design problem: a meta that has not moved in four years, with best-in-slot weapons attainable relatively early, discourages long-term weapon progression. His proposed fix is gating raw combat power behind SkyBlock Level, which is currently a cosmetic stat with no gameplay effect. Guide-focused creators like Future77, NecronIsGood, and lace take the opposite stance in practice: rather than debating whether the meta should change, they simply optimize execution within it. Whether this stagnation is actually “a problem” mostly depends on where you sit — a veteran with every weapon already crafted feels the staleness much more than someone working toward their first Hyperion.
Practical damage checklist (evergreen, still accurate post-rework)
Candypat and V1dd’s breakdown (roughly 94k views) lays out the highest-leverage, non-meta-dependent damage gains available to most players right now:
- Push Combat skill past 50, ideally to 60. The jump from level 41 to 60 raises the mob damage bonus from 164% to 210%. Past level 50 the gains slow to roughly 1% per level versus about 4% per level before that, so 50-60 is a soft target, not a hard wall. Foraging to 54 is recommended alongside it for the Strength bonus.
- Prioritize enchant tiers over One For All. Tier 6 enchants, at roughly 50M coins combined, give an estimated 35-40% more damage than a lower-tier setup. They argue against One For All for most players specifically because it locks the weapon out of stacking Chimera, Soul Eater, Swarm, and other independent enchants that add up to more total damage.
- Reforge armor to Ancient. Ancient adds +1 crit damage per Catacombs level, per piece. At Catacombs level 50 on a full four-piece set that is +200 crit damage, described as roughly 10% more damage “for free” relative to a non-Ancient reforge.
- Stack Magical Power. Roughly +4-5% damage per 100 Magical Power, scaling close to linearly up to around 2000 MP.
- Favor Crimson armor over legacy Final Destination for most budgets, since Crimson is indefinitely upgradeable rather than capped.
Candypat and V1dd’s original take that “Golden Dragon is a must-buy pet, nothing else comes close” predates the July Gold’s Power rework. It is still true that G-drag remains the top overall damage pet by base stats, but the specific Gold’s Power damage margin they cited no longer applies to non-Midas users. Cross-check current pet pricing on SkyCofl’s item pages before committing coins.
Money-making combat meta: coins per hour
At endgame gear, creators are currently reporting these approximate combat coins/hour figures. Treat them as ceilings reachable with strong execution and full gear, not guaranteed averages:
| Method | Coins/hour | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Kuudra Tier 5 (Future77) | ~140M/hour with a good party | Most profitable method currently in the game. Recommends Rend Terminator over Duplex for the boss fight, strict party role specialization instead of generalist loadouts, and rerolling any chest reward under 3M coins rather than opening it. |
| Tarantula/Spider Slayer (lace) | ~30M/hour baseline scaling to ~90M/hour fully geared | Key technique is deliberately selecting Tarantula Silk in the slayer RNG meter, worth roughly 300k coins each. Recommended budget on-ramp before affording Crimson armor is Ancient Mastiff armor paired with the Pooch Sword. |
For a full walkthrough of either method, see the dedicated slayer money-making guides linked below, and cross-check current sell prices with SkyCofl’s bazaar tool before you commit to a farming session.
Dungeon Master Mode 7 snapshot
NecronIsGood’s current M7 tank baseline: Diamond Head, Skeleton Master or Necron Chestplate, Necron Leggings, and Maxor Boots, paired with Spirit Mask, Bonzo’s Mask, Soul Eater Terminator, Wither Cloak, Bouquet of Lies, a Hyperion or Astraea, and Ice Spray Wand. Notably, the current meta at this level is less about chasing a higher gear ceiling and more about precise, mod-assisted execution — pet-swap timing rules and dungeon-assist mods like Odin now matter as much as raw stats.
Mid-July 2026 approximate AH prices (verify live before trading):
| Item | Approx. price |
|---|---|
| Hyperion | ~1.0-1.2B |
| Bouquet of Lies | ~29M |
Check current lowest BIN and median prices in real time before buying or listing, since AH prices move quickly around balance patches: Hyperion on SkyCofl and SkyCofl top movers for anything spiking or crashing this week.
What’s coming: the thing that could actually break this meta
Two confirmed-in-development additions could finally shake up the four-year Hyperion/Terminator duo: Guardian Slayer, a seventh, instanced slayer boss, and the Desecrated Shrine fishing island. Neither has a firm release date beyond “sometime in 2026.” Fear5s speculates the accompanying weapon reward could be a trident or another niche weapon type currently underused in endgame combat — this is speculation, not confirmed patch content, so treat it as a watch item rather than a plan.
Until Guardian Slayer ships, expect Hyperion and Terminator to remain the default recommendation in nearly every combat guide. See our Guardian Slayer guide for what’s known so far, and the 0.26.0 update guide for the full patch beyond the Gold’s Power change.
